Skunk spray can make your nostrils very angry,
especially when it is sprayed onto your dog's coat!
Throughout my years doing obedience training I have come
across a few clients that had this problem. Here are a
few tips to help you overcome this nusiance.
-First And Foremost Check to make
sure that your dog isn't injured. If he is get him
professional help at your vet's immediately and worry
about the stink later.
-Skunk Spray Has An Oil Base
If you just douse your pooch in water
chances are that the smell will spread all over him as
opposed to the concentrated area that it was sprayed.
-Be Careful Around Your Dog's Eyes
And Nose
These spots are tender as it is, so take
care in not getting mixtures or commercial cleaners in
the dog's eyes, etc.
- Try Things You Have Handy To Remedy
The Smell
Some swear by tomato juice. Some have
told me that it just made their dog smell like skunky
tomatoes. You can try it if you have it, but better yet,
try this:
-ONE QUART OF 3% HYDROGEN PEROXIDE
-1/4 CUP OF BAKING SODA
-1 TEASPOON OF GOOD DISH SOAP
Mix the mixture in a wash bucket so it
doesn't overflow. It WILL fizz and build pressure, so
don't put it in a spray bottle or any other closed
container.
Wash accordingly using a cloth to wash
around eyes and nose. Rinse and repeat if desired.
COMMERCIAL PRODUCTS
If you have the time, you may try some
of the commercial odor removing products on the market
such as
-Natures Miracle -Earth Friendly
Good luck and drop us a line if you find
a new mixture that works so that we can share it with
all of our visitors.
